Here comes the rain again
Today is a landmark day, the decorators have finished and the
house is ours again, but as you can see from the title though, the day they
finish, it’s chucking it down! I am
determined this shouldn’t spoil this special occasion; I may even go out to
celebrate. Over the Bank Holiday weekend
we all worked quite hard, hubby refurbished the sash windows in the house,
ready for painting and I was left to my own devices in the garden (cutting back
the overgrown shrubs along the garden path).
On Monday, two very nice gentlemen turned up from our local turf company
and removed our old lawn, prepared the ground and laid the new lawn, all within
the morning (hope they were getting paid extra for doing it over a
holiday). So now I have a beautiful new
green lawn and because of the wonderful British weather we don’t have to water
it!
I am still sleeping in the caravan, the smell of the paint
and the new storage heaters in the house is awful and my asthma is not good at
the moment, almost a case of hold my breath when I go into the loo (a little
difficult when you are already having trouble breathing, however).
The terrace we live in was featured on the local BBC news at
the end of last week, marking the six month anniversary of the flooding. It is a sad fact that one of our neighbours
is still in limbo, work has not even started on her property yet and she has
had the dehumidifiers put back in because of the damp. We wish her well and once they get started
they don’t hang around and take too long, just another example of how insurance
companies differ. Our one immediate
neighbour however, is at about the same stage as us and after a short chat with
her builder this morning he thinks she should be back in by the end of next
week.
Tomorrow, the carpet and flooring fitters are due to arrive
here, so it will be nice and warm underfoot, even if a little lacking in
furniture. We will probably continue to live in the caravan for another couple
of weeks yet, but at least we can start bringing back some of the belongings
that have been stored in our daughter’s loft (I am sure she will appreciate
having the space back). The cats will
all be glad to be back in the house as well I suspect, and you will pleased to
hear that the one that has been ill, is now fine (hubby has the scars to prove
it, the only time she doesn’t attack him is when she is not well).
I have also been spending money again this week, new
accessories for the kitchen and I’ve finally made up my mind about the dining
room curtains, I am making them myself (not exactly a saving, the cost of
enough fabric for curtains and matching table cover came to just under £170, I
have to say hubby was very good and didn’t pass out when he saw the bill! What
he doesn’t realise yet there are still all the other bits to add on, such as
cotton and header tape etc). I will not
be starting them just yet though, as I’ve either got to make them at our
daughter’s house or wait until we are back in, a caravan does not really
provide the space to open out, measure and cut to size, seven metres of fabric. Besides the fabric, I have also bought new
light fittings and switches for all the rooms and hubby has very kindly fitted
them (as he has made a point of reminding me!), well if you are having a new
colour scheme, then it only makes sense to go the whole hog, doesn’t it. On the subject of hubby, he is a much happier
bunny; he has had his car back (again), just in time for mine to go in for a
service and MOT, which it passes with flying colours.
We have spent a couple of lovely days with family this week,
several meals eaten with different offspring and some quality time with a
couple of our grandchildren (we are making the most of the spare time at the
moment as I think we may be exceedingly busy over the next few weeks, well I’m
hoping so anyway!)
Well, I think it’s about time to love you and leave you, as
always there appears to be a bowl full of washing up to do (I no sooner empty
it and it fills again, extremely clever
seeing as though there was only two of us here for most of the day!). Until the next time look after each other xx
